About Dr Anmol Sonawane

Dr Anmol Prakash Sonawane is a leading interventional cardiologist in India, known nationally and internationally for his work in adult structural heart interventions, especially transcatheter aortic valve implantation/replacement (TAVI/TAVR).

 

TAVI replaces a diseased heart valve through a catheter, without open-heart surgery and without a cut on the chest. Many patients go home within 24 to 48 hours.

 

He completed his MBBS and MD at Seth G.S. Medical College & KEM Hospital, Mumbai, and his DNB Cardiology at Jaslok Hospital and Research Centre, Mumbai.

 

He then completed an international fellowship in TAVI, complex coronary and structural interventions at Bezmialem Vakif University & Memorial Hospital, Istanbul, Turkey.

 

Dr. Sonawane has performed and proctored more than 5000 TAVI procedures in India and abroad. As a national and international proctor for TAVI technology, he has helped many hospitals in India start their own TAVI programmes.

 

He was closely involved in the clinical trials and expansion of two India-made TAVI valves, Myval (balloon-expandable, Meril Life Sciences) and Hydra (self-expandable, SMT), which made the therapy more affordable for Indian patients.
